Privacy policy
In short. We collect only what we need to run your account, play videos and take payments. We never sell your data. We never see your card number. You can delete your account at any time from the app, and we then remove everything personal except the payment records the law makes us keep.

1. Who we are
Tauraruwa TV ("we", "us") runs the Tauraruwa TV app and website, a Hausa-language movie and series streaming service. We are the "data controller" for the personal data described here. How to reach us is at the bottom of this page.
2. What we collect and why
| Data | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| Account: name, email address, phone number, password (stored only as a one-way hash, never readable) | To create and secure your account, send you password-reset codes and notices about your plan, and let you contact support |
| Devices: a random device id, the device name and system (Android or iOS), when it was last used | To keep you signed in, enforce the number of devices your plan allows, and let you sign a lost phone out |
| Viewing: which titles and episodes you watch, how long, where you stopped, your watch list | To resume where you left off, show "continue watching", count views fairly, and improve what we offer. Aggregated numbers (for example "how many people watched this film") are not tied to you |
| Payments: plan, amount, method, reference, date and status; for bank-transfer payments the receipt image and note you upload | To give you access, check your payment, answer questions and keep accounting and tax records |
| Technical: a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address, app version, error logs | To count views once per viewer without storing your IP address, protect against abuse and fix bugs |
| Messages you send us (email, WhatsApp) | To help you |
Card details. When you pay by card, bank or USSD you enter your details on Paystack's secure page. We never see or store your card number or PIN. Paystack tells us only whether the payment succeeded, its reference and the amount.
We do not use advertising trackers, sell or rent your data, or build profiles to sell to others.
2a. Our legal bases
We handle your data because it is needed to provide the service you asked for (our contract with you), because the law requires it (for example keeping payment records), because we have a legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and working, or, where we ask, because you agreed. You can withdraw agreement at any time.
3. Who we share it with
- Paystack, our payment processor, to take and confirm card, bank and transfer payments (including the personal bank account number we may create for you). See Paystack's own privacy notice.
- Our hosting and email providers, who store and send data for us under agreements that stop them using it for anything else.
- Authorities, when the law or a valid court order requires it.
Our servers may be located outside Nigeria. Where that happens we take steps so that your data stays protected to the standard Nigerian law expects.
4. How long we keep it
- Account and viewing data: while your account exists. When you delete your account we remove it (section 6).
- Payment records (reference, plan, amount, date, and receipt images you uploaded): for 6 years, because accounting and tax law requires it. After deletion they are kept without your name, email or phone number.
- Error and security logs: up to 30 days.
- Backups: up to 14 days; a deleted account disappears from backups as they expire.
5. How we protect it
Passwords are hashed. Connections use HTTPS. Video links are signed and expire. Access to the admin tools is limited by role and logged. Receipts are stored privately and shown only to staff who verify payments. No system is perfect; if a breach puts your rights at risk we will tell you and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission as the law requires.
6. Your rights and how to use them
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you may ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, move it to another service, and withdraw agreement you gave. You may also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
- Delete your account: in the app go to Account → Delete my account. Details: how deletion works.
- Anything else: contact us below. We answer within 30 days.
7. Children
Tauraruwa TV is not for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you are under 18, please use the service with a parent's or guardian's permission. If you think a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters we will tell you in the app or by email before it starts. The date at the top always shows the latest version.
